Specimen Studies: Original artwork by Bethany, sold individually
Original artwork by Bethany Haeseler, price each.

All items have been custom framed by the artist. Each specimen sculpture has been placed in a white wooden shadow box frame and protected by framing grade acrylic, measuring ~9.5 x 9.5 x 2.25" overall. Frames can be either hung on the wall, or displayed on a shelf.
These artworks were made during my time in Northern New York. Art meets science, as the works reflect my journey through what I can only now describe as medical madness. A journey through my father's cancer recurrence, as well as my body's own excursions in cellular overgrowth. Each specimen is made from cast plaster, then painted, and hand-embellished with curious findings, such as false eyelashes, artificial flower stamens, googly eyes, glitter, flocking, microbeads, and swarovski crystals.
Each stamen is securely "rooted" in the form, the holes pre-drilled with a bit the size of a needle. In later editions (B, N, U), tiny faceted crystals have been countersunk into the plaster. On some specimens, areas have been carved (plaster removed) and then filled with pigments, crystals, and glitters to emphasize cellular growth and destruction.
